Why content marking matters
Under Article 50(2) of the EU AI Act, providers of AI systems that generate synthetic audio, image, video or text must mark those outputs in a machine-readable way. The duty applies from 2 August 2026, with a transition to 2 December 2026 for systems already on the market. Deepfakes carry an additional visible-label duty under Article 50(4).
This checker looks for the presence of provenance metadata — it is not a cryptographic validation of a C2PA manifest, and absence of markers does not by itself mean non-compliance.
