For companies that sell AI

The documents your customer is waiting for

Your buyer’s legal review has stopped the purchase until documentation arrives. Answer six questions and you get the reply: which documents they are entitled to ask you for, the provision each request comes from, when it binds — and, in writing, the requests that do not apply to what you sell.

The pack is on screen the moment you finish, and downloadable as a PDF addressed to your customer. No email required. The vendor playbook behind it lists all 12 asks and where each comes from in the Act.

What to send

Each document your customer can ask for, with the provision it comes from and whether that provision binds today or on a stated date.

What does not apply

The requests that do not attach to your system, each with a reason you can forward. This is the half that ends the thread.

A forwardable PDF

Six questions

0 of 6 answered
  1. 1

    What does your product do?

One or two sentences. It goes on the cover page so your customer knows which system the pack describes.

  2. 2

For this system, what are you?

Art. 3(3) and 3(4) assign duties by operator role. Art. 25 can turn your customer into the provider if it rebrands or substantially modifies what you sell.

  3. 3

Is it used in an Annex III area — employment, education, credit, insurance, essential services, biometrics, law enforcement, migration or justice?

Art. 6(2) makes systems in the Annex III areas high-risk. This is the single answer that decides most of the pack.

  4. 4

Does it talk to people, or generate synthetic text, images, audio or video?

Art. 50(1) and 50(2): interaction disclosure and machine-readable marking of generated output. This is the part that is already enforceable.

  5. 5

Is there a general-purpose AI model behind it?

Art. 53(1)(b) obliges the model provider to hand you documentation for exactly this purpose — your buyer wants it passed on.

  6. 6

Is the customer asking for this documentation in the EU?

Art. 2 sets the territorial scope. If nothing you sell reaches the EU market or produces output used there, the pack is a preparation list rather than a duty list.

Answer all six and your pack appears below — on screen, in full, before anything is asked of you.

What this is, and what it is not

  • It is automated guidance, not legal advice, and it is not a legal opinion on your product. Six questions cannot classify a system; the free classifier goes further, and a lawyer goes further still.
  • Sending everything in the pack does not make you compliant with Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 and this page never says otherwise. The pack lists what a customer is entitled to ask for — producing the documents is the work, and the documents themselves are the evidence.
  • Every citation traces to a real provision and is shown next to the request it answers, so your buyer can check it rather than take our word for it. Every date is derived from the Act’s staged application dates, not written by hand.
  • Your answers stay in your browser unless you ask for an emailed copy. The PDF is built on request and is not stored.
